Why Twitter raised the number of tweet to 280 characters

What can Twitter do with 280 characters?

This is what comes to mind after Twitter announced the Twitter system that allows the Twitter user to double the number of characters, 280 characters instead of 140, and although the feature is still under test so far, but being a fundamental change made Twitter's publication of the news as a confirmation of its introduction, So any drop from Twitter at this moment will make it look bad, which we exclude.

In reference to our search for the cause of the Twitter step, we find an important explanation explained by the company through a publication. I noticed that the Japanese, Korean and Chinese devotees take fewer letters to express the same thoughts in the English-speaking monk, not because the Japanese monk is cultured and has the ability On the brevity, but because the words in the languages mentioned consist of a few letters.

Because Twitter does not want to appear to steal part of the freedom of expression for users from a certain area, by reducing the number of characters for Japanese, for example, I thought the right option would be to increase the upper limit of the characters, but if we could have up to 280 characters, why not 500 or 1000 characters? Has not there been a limit?

To understand Twitter's step by maintaining a higher level of Twitter, we need to understand Twitter's platform. It is a platform for presenting different ideas and content in a nutshell, and pushing the higher limit is more and more taken away by its reputation, but no one has said that 140 characters is the perfect limit. Permitting Twitter to 280 characters would not lose the social network the most important feature of "brevity" - perhaps partly - while achieving what it wants to give the devotees enough space to express.

Although Twitter's attempt to raise the upper limit of the charset was originally to give equal space to the expression in the different languages, it would attract another segment of users who did not have the same ability to summarize, so the content can be changed somewhat on Twitter.

Adding a new segment of users may be a solution to increase users' growth. Four years ago, after the company's IPO, we did not see much growth in users. Why does Twitter try something new that knows that there are users who want to attract another segment?

The dilemma Twitter faces now is the extent to which it maintains its most important reputation: to push the user to summarize his ideas with the new limit. Is increasing the time of sharing "read and reply" with each tweet will affect other factors (immediacy, interest, simplicity), which makes the Twitter service not distinctive? Is it worth risking the most important brand for the new user segment?

If Twitter knows how to answer these questions, it may have been delayed until now to raise the limit for all these years. Let's wait a while after the new tweets are available to all users and the company's data will be numbered, but in your opinion, do you think it is an appropriate step?
